We are part of the Arqus European University Alliance

The Institute of Environmental Systems Sciences is proud to contribute to the international activities of the University of Graz within the Arqus European University Alliance. Arqus brings together European universities that share common academic, scientific and cultural goals.

The University of Graz is a full member of the Arqus Alliance, together with the University of Padua, the University of Minho, Leipzig University, Maynooth University, the University of Granada, the University of Wrocław, Université Claude Bernard Lyon 1 and Vilnius University.

Through Arqus, students and staff have the opportunity to participate in international learning formats, mobility opportunities, joint teaching activities and exchange initiatives across Europe.

Arqus Mobility Windows

Study abroad made easy!

Arqus Mobility Windows offer students the opportunity to spend one semester abroad at a partner university while following a predefined study path that can be integrated into their degree programme. For students in Environmental Systems Sciences / Sustainability and Innovation Management, two Mobility Windows are currently available:

University of Padua, Italy

Mobility Window: Local Development
Semester: each winter semester
Focus: This Mobility Window provides an interdisciplinary perspective on local development processes, including social, organizational, economic, territorial and institutional dimensions.

Mandatory courses:

  • European Urban Transitions (6 ECTS)
  • Community, Locality and Cultural Heritage (6 ECTS)
  • Ecological and Social Principles in Economics (6 ECTS)
  • Space, Place and Mobility (6 ECTS)

Elective courses:

  • Geographical Space: Concepts, Tools and Practice (6 ECTS)
  • GIS: Mapping and Analysis (9 ECTS)
  • Territorial Strategic Approaches for Local Development (6 ECTS)
  • Transformative Learning, Participation and Group Dynamics (6 ECTS)
  • Microfinance for Local Development (6 ECTS)

Expected pre-knowledge: 

Basics of social sciences, humanities, development economics, human mobilities and commodities circulation, basic terms in banking 

 

University of Minho, Portugal

Mobility Window: Governance and Management for Sustainability
Semester: each summer semester
Focus: This Mobility Window explores how policy, finance and institutional strategies contribute to sustainable development. It combines perspectives from economics, management and public policy.

Mandatory courses:

  • Environmental Economics and Policy (6 ECTS)
  • Sustainable Finances (6 ECTS)
  • Economics of Knowledge and Innovation (6 ECTS)

Elective courses:

  • Evaluation of Public Policies (6 ECTS)
  • Financial and Sustainability Reporting (6 ECTS)
  • Marketing and Sustainability (6 ECTS)
  • Sustainability in International Supply Chains (6 ECTS)
  • Behavioral Finance (6 ECTS)

Expected pre-knowledge: 

Basic understanding of sustainability issues, management, economics and systems sciences

 

Why participate?

Participating in a Mobility Window allows students to gain international experience, study sustainability-related topics in an international environment and benefit from a structured mobility pathway with predefined course options. All courses within the current Mobility Window offer are taught in English.
