To apprehend the effects of human behavior towards the environment it is required to connect various fields of study. The problem areas of “human and environment” are connected with actions of individuals in a social and economic way, therefore a technological analysis is not enough. An interdisciplinary point of view is required, that contains economic, juridical and philosophical aspects.

The basic idea of the studies of environmental systems sciences is, besides a grounding expert education, to connect the basics and the thinking of some other disciplines to establish connections between these. Thereby it is not only about the analysis of seperate system elements, but also about the studies of system dynamics and the crosslinking of these elements among each other. Thus are also system analytical and mathematical methods a fundamental part of these studies.
